[Why the Bitcoin halving is important for the future of decentralized finance]
The Bitcoin halving event, which occurs approximately every four years or every 210,000 blocks and halved the rewards for Bitcoin miners, is a pivotal moment in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. From the first halving in 2012, which reduced the reward per block from 50 BTC to 25 BTC, it is expected to be halved again to 3.125 BTC in mid-2024. This event directly affects the supply of Bitcoin, and in turn affects the entire crypto ecosystem. , including decentralized finance (DeFi).
Cointelegraph interviewed a number of DeFi industry experts, including market analysts and senior executives of Bitcoin companies, to discuss the potential impact of halving on the community. DeFi aims to create an open, permissionless and trustless financial system with the help of blockchain technology, in which Bitcoin plays a key role.
Market analyst Grzegorz Drozdz believes that the halving may not only push up the value of Bitcoin, but also promote the growth of the entire crypto market. He pointed out that as an important part of the DeFi ecosystem, Bitcoin’s rising value may attract more investment into DeFi platforms and projects. However, he also mentioned that Bitcoin’s position in the crypto market is strengthening and now accounts for 54% of market capitalization, which means that investment will first focus on the main cryptocurrency before it may move to other projects.
